The Rise Of The Civil War - 1096 Words

The time period of the 1850 s were the years leading up to Civil War in which many events took place that changed America. Many factors contributed to influencing the Civil War. The three major factors leading up to the Civil War were the Fugitive Slave Act, the Kansas- Nebraska Act, and the anti-slavery violence of John Brown. All of these significant events changed American in either one way or another. Growing tensions between the North and the South led to major factors during the 1850s. The Fugitive Slave Act, the Kansas- Nebraska Act, and John Brown marked a turning point in American history which ultimately led to the Civil War. Fugitive Slave Act took place in 1850, the Kansas- Nebraska Act was in 1854 and then John Brown came into play in 1859. Even though these events might not be the most factorable in the time leading up to the Civil War, they are most defiantly important. The Fugitive Slave Act in 1850, added stringent amendments to law that was passed earlier, including that citizens had to assist with finding runaway slaves or else they will face serious consequences. Citizens who assisted a fugitive slave could be fined or imprisoned. This law required citizens to turn in slaves if they find them and or if they know them. The judge just needs one person to say that the â€Å"slave† is really a slave in order for them to be brought back to their landowners. Academic procrastination is an established area of research in higher education and psychology. This phenomenon has been studied with many forms of student assignments, including those in online courses (e.g., Goda, Yamada, Kato, Matsuda, Saito Miyagawa, 2014; McElroy Lubich, 2013; Klingsieck, Fries, Horz, Hofer, 2012; Rabin, Fogel, Nutter-Upham, 2011). Up to 70% of university students consider themselves to be procrastinators (Goda et al., 2014; Schouwenburg, Lay, Pychyl, Ferrari, 2004). Researchers have focused on students’ timeliness in turning in assignments, their performance on those assignments, and their perceptions of their experiences. This paper investigates whether student procrastination occurs in an open testing environment, which until recently has not been available for study. Steel (2007) defines procrastination as voluntarily delaying action despite worry of consequences and without external reasons for waiting. A case was distributed among the candidates prior to the final selection because sometimes hypothetical and practical case studies require time to analyze and interpret. According to the, case study the cases were provided to the candidates before they were to proceed to the next phase of group discussion. The first group discussion was based on the lighter subjects like economics, sociology, politics and education related. Thus, such topics do not require prior understanding and analysis.
